The Vienna Opera Ball is the glamorous highlight of the Austrian ball season.

An unforgettable evening with clear fixed points and musical highlights awaits guests at the Vienna State Opera – from entry to the opening to the closing in the early hours of the morning. Whether it's the evening's schedule, dress code or finding your way around the house, the most important information is collected here.

Vienna Opera Ball

The doors open - the Vienna Opera Ball begins. All guests are free to choose whether they want to enter the opera house via the Red Carpet or our other entrances.

The Red Carpet is closed to all guests and the Austrian Federal Government and the Federal President arrive.

The opening of the Vienna Opera Ball is one of the most famous parts of the evening. From the entry of the opening committee to artistic performances by world stars of the opera and classical music cosmos.

After the ceremonial opening, it's "Everyone Waltz!" as every year

The ballroom is open and all guests can dance on the dance floor.

Three large quadrilles are danced in the ballroom throughout the evening.

The quadrille at midnight is a particular highlight of the evening that many guests don't want to miss.

The Vienna Opera Ball officially ends at 05:00 in the morning. An unforgettable night is over, but the excitement for next year remains.

Dress Code

The festive dress code is an inseparable part of the Vienna Opera Ball.

In order to preserve the special character of the ball, the specified dress code must be adhered to by all guests.

Sparkling wine and rosé from Schloss Gobelsburg, fine Bollinger champagne, selected white wines, classic long drinks, spirits, non-alcoholic refreshments and Italian coffee specialties round off the offer in style.

Feststiege

If you would like to enter the Opera Ball via the famous and beautifully decorated Feststiege (Main Staircase), you have the opportunity to do so until 21:10.

From 21:10, our Feststiege access will be closed for the arrival of the Austrian Federal Government and the Federal President and his guests.
Later in the evening, the Feststiege will of course be accessible to all our guests again.

Please note that when entering the Red Carpet, you must choose between the regular Red Carpet and the Feststiegen-Zugang.
Both entrances lead into the building via the Red Carpet, but if you want to enter via the Feststiege, you have to enter via the Feststiegen-Zugang.

Red Carpet

Our Red Carpet entrance will be accessible to you throughout the entire evening. Please note that entering via this entrance does not include access to the Feststiege (Main Staircase). To use the Grand Staircase, please choose the designated Grand Staircase entrance.

The Red Carpet will remain open and accessible to you even during the arrival of the Austrian Federal Government and the Federal President.

If you lose something on the evening of the ball and notice it promptly, you can ask at our lost and found office.

If you have any general or specific questions about the ball or your stay, our information desk is of course also available in addition to our information service, which is located throughout the building.

On the evening of the ball, our box office is open for you from 14 o'clock.

If any ball tickets, table seats or spectator tickets have been returned, you still have the opportunity to get a last-minute ticket for the Opera Ball here – if luck is on your side.

Garderobenzelt

You can leave your jackets and/or coats here at no extra cost. Our cloak room staff will be happy to help you.

Please do not forget to pick up your jackets and/or coats at the end of your ball evening.

The Hinterbühne (Backstage) - an area where stage sets and bulky props such as the cars from Carmen are normally stored - is transformed every year for the Opera Ball into an open space from which the couples from the opening committee enter the ballroom.

The heart of the Opera Ball is, of course, our grand ballroom.

From the opening to "Alles Walzer!" and the quadrilles until the early hours of the morning - this is what you know from television as the Vienna Opera Ball!

The conversion and dismantling of the hall takes more than 50 hours in total.

Away from the Opera Ball, the Einsingraum is an area where singers - whether world stars or Viennese favorites - warm up vocally and prepare for their performance on the big stage.

On the evening of the ball, this room, which is normally reserved for the stars, becomes an exclusive area where guests are pampered with a table seat by our table service.

Schuster-Werkstatt

Service

If you have shoe problems on the evening of the ball, our cobbler's workshop in the men's solo corridor on the ballroom level will be happy to help.

Repairs can be carried out directly on site.

Popp & Kretschmer's Schneider-Werkstatt

Service

At the ball, Popp & Kretschmer's tailoring workshop is located in a place where stars normally change and prepare for their performance. Small wardrobe mishaps are expertly repaired here.
