Be Part of the Opening Ceremony
To be included in the opening committee, the following requirements must be met:
- Have very good left-hand waltz skills
- You are at least 18 and a maximum of 27 years old on the day of the Opera Ball (February 4, 2027) – this applies to both partners of the pair
- You have not yet opened the Vienna Opera Ball – being part of the opening committee is only possible once

An application for the opening committee of the Vienna Opera Ball is only possible as a couple. Individual applications are not possible and will not be considered.

Auditions & rehearsals
Dancing couples from Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland as well as from a radius of approx. two hours by car to Vienna will be invited to audition on a Saturday in October 2026 after all applications have been reviewed.
Applicants from other federal states and abroad are free to travel to the audition or alternatively send in a video showing their left-hand waltz skills. Here too, an invitation will be sent out after the application deadline with further details of what this video should look like.

All applicants will be informed by e-mail by the end of December 2026 at the latest whether they will be included in the opening committee of the Vienna Opera Ball 2027.
We ask for your understanding that we must reserve the right to exclude couples who do not meet the necessary dance requirements from the opening committee during rehearsals despite prior acceptance.
During the preparation phase, the following rehearsals will take place on the weekends before the ball:
For couples from Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland, Linz and Wels
- 3 rehearsals in Vienna: January 17, January 23, January 24, 2027 - all day in each case
For couples from other provinces and international couples
- 1 rehearsal in Vienna: January 30, 2027 - in the morning
Additionally for all couples
- 2 main rehearsals in the Gustav Mahler Hall of the Vienna State Opera (January 30, 2027 in the afternoon; January 31, 2027 all day)
- Dress rehearsal on Wednesday, February 03, 2027 (in the ballroom of the Vienna State Opera)
In order to make your debut at the Opera Ball of the Vienna State Opera, participation in all assigned rehearsals is mandatory.
